Although this is like my fifth time watching "The Matrix". Every time I come back to watch Martix , I feel like this is the first time that I am watching Matrix. When Morpheus offers Neo the Red pile or the Blue pile it reminds me of the everyday decisions that I have to make. Do the homework, or watch a movie? Go to sleep, or stay up? Go to class, or not? Red pile represents the stuff that I want to try, the stuff that I could risk a chance for. And the blue pile represents the ordinary stuff . One decision I have to make that is similar to the matrix red pile blue pile theme is coming to America
I came to America about five years ago, since then I have been living in two life. I have to get use to the American's way of living, and also not forget my culture in Taiwan. In America, life is surrounded by the tech knowledge, and life is convene. On the other hand, Taiwan doesn't rely on tech knowledge that much. This is very similar to the red pile, blue pile situation.Neo has to get use to how people live in the "real world",but also not forgeting the old life in the "dream world".
I think Neo is very brave. If I have to pick between the blue pile or the red, I will probably take the blue pile. I guess that is what makes him become the one,and I am just another human being. Morphues told Neo that if he take the blue pile, he only offer him the truth and nothing more. However, Neo not only take the red pile, he went above and benoed. He is the only one that is brave enough to fight face to face with an agent. Many time he almost lost his life because of it, but he never gives up, he continues to do what he think is right. Unlike me, I do not like to face decisions. Making decisions make me panic. I will defiantly not be the one that is brave enough to face the agent.
I really like the idea of Matrix. It kind of reminds me of the movie inception. It is very creative. After watching the movie I was like, am I living in the real world, or this is just a dream? Is the chicken that I am eating real? Or it is just my imagination. Those thoughts scares me, I am not even sure if I am human? Or I am just another program that someone creates. The lady that knows the future, she is also a very interesting person. She makes me think of my future. Can I even control my future? Maybe it is all plan out for me before I was even born. Or it is like what Neo believes, we can control our own future. Some how I think that everyone's has their own destany and our like are all plan out by someone already. Neo later one becomes the one and defeat the agent, however, this is not what the future lady said to Neo. The future lady states that Neo has the talent, but he is not the one. Does that mean Neo changes the future? No, when Neo thinks that he is in control of his future, it might not be right, maybe the future is controlling him. Maybe the future wants the future lady to said that Neo is not the one and he is not in control of his future. Then this will motivate Neo to do something so he can be in control of his own future. However, this is already planned out by future.
After watching this movie it makes me think of a lot of things. It makes me want to go home and finish the rest of the series. It is a great movie.

IAT
When I first started the IAT, I was like this is easy. At first they ask me to seperate fat and thin people which was easy. Then it wants to the seperate good words and bad words. Finally, they mix up fat, thin, good, and bad. It gets very complicated. It was kind of scary becuase it is timed, so I am afaird that I am going to run out of time.
Slight automatic preference for Thin People compared to Fat People.” After answering a lot of question about fat people and thin people, this is what I got.
Slight automatic preference for Thin People compared to Fat People.” After answering a lot of question about fat people and thin people, this is what I got.
I think this answer is quiet correct, since I am very skinny, I prefer thin people a little bit more. Fat people do not usually have the best looking face, but however, I think most fat people are very nice, very kind. Thin people are generally better looking, more attractive in my opinion, but they are more likely to be arrogant and mean. The data said 27% people are moderate prefer for thin people compared to fat people, I believe that is due to the media. People are use to thinking that thin people are the people that can wear nice clothes, thin people are more attractive. Even know this is unfair to the fat people, but this is the way how people think now days.
“Your data suggest little to no automatic preference between Young and Old.” This is what I got from the Young and Old test. I think this is also quiet correct. I love old people, they are very nice. Often old people give me a lot of tips for life. However when talking to old people I need to be very patience, because a lot of them cannot hear very well. On the other hand, young people are more energetic, outgoing. Young and old people both have their pros and cons. That is why I have no preference between those two.
The IAT experience was very interesting, fun, and eye opening. Even know I have the answer to the question in my mind already before I started the test. But it is still kind of fun to see the test result.
Informal Writing
After finish watching the videos, Peter Singer caught my attention the most. He uses stories to illustrate his point. I remember in high school, I wrote a paper that is similar to Singer's idea. I actually did a research about his idea.
In Peter Singer's video, he mentions that the story of a drowning child. The child's parents are missing, and you see that the child needs your help. Would you save her? If we choose to save her, it will cost us a new pair of shoes, but if we choose not to save the kid, she will die. Obviously, most people will choose to save the kid and forget about the pair of shoe, because we are human. We care for each other especially when it comes to taking someone’s life away. However, Peter Singer also brought up an interesting topic. He said that for the price of the pair of shoe, why don't we donate it to the poor people? It could also save a life of a child or even more. This question makes me think about what I would do, donate or not donate? I probably would not donate the money to the poor. The reason of why I choose to save the kid but not give out money to the poor, is because the drowning child is right in front of me, if I don't save her life, it is like I am killing the child myself, and for the rest of my life I will life with the feeling of regret and guilt. On the other hand, we can't really see the poor people; we do not know how poor they are. Or how much help they need. It is hard to care about something when you can't see it. Plus, I wonder that how can we make sure that 100 percent of the money that I donate will go straight to the people in need? It's is like giving out money to the air. Just because the people in need are not right in front of me, I would not feel a sense of guild if I don't help them. Why do I have to care about them? If I don't help them, someone else will take care of them.
Peter Singer said that "Ethic is about the basic choice we made in our life." However, to apply ethic in the real world might be quiet challenging. The things that you think its right, other people will not essissary think the same. Then how do we determine what is justice or what is not? Some people think that we can only have ethic standard if we believe in religion. Because God hands down a set of commands that we have to follow. And the commands he gave out is justice, or morally correct. However, tend to agree with Peter Singer's idea over the God hands out a set of rules idea. Peter Singer believes that ethic has to come from our self, but it is not what you think is right is right, ethic is what everyone think is right to do. This is kind of like the Freedom topic that what we talked about in class, there is not a real answer to that.

I think ethic is within our culture, our culture effects who we are. But different culture has different ethic standard, however, they are all very similar. If everyone follows the ethic standard, it will make our world a better place.

Scavenger Hunt!
This is the first time that I play the scavenger hunt, and it was very fun. At first I was like I don't want to do this, this is boring, I didn't know the people in my group, this is just going to be another in class activity. However, after we started the scavenger hunt, I realize that the people in my group are very friend. After we step out of the classroom people started to ask me to take photos with them, because I saw the Tron in 3D plus I had my Silver Converse on. The game becomes less like a competition, everyone started to help each other out even if they are not in the same group. It was a great experience.(Q1) |
If I could have a chance to do the scavenger hunt again, I would just stay in the class room , use my ipad to search everything up, then take a photo with it. I wouldn't even bother going out the classroom (Q2)
At first our strategy was to find the real thing and take a picture with it. But after we enter the libirary we saw everyone using the computer and the interenet as their source, we changed our strategy, we did most of item on the internet. And we also felt cheated becuase we were actually out there searching for two honda civic....(Q3)
Not enough time was our only problem, at first 40 minute seems to be quiet a while. But after running around the campus searching for bus stop and civic. 40 minute was just not enough for us (Q4)
Finally, we decided to search everything up on the internet for the time that was had left. Which was about 10 minute..(Q5)
Scavenger Hunt definitly involovs creativity, because you have to be creative on sreaching some of the item. It also require some individual skills, but most of the time it requires society, which is group work. Group work is actually what makes scavenger hunt so fun to play.(Q6)
