Just like Microsoft, Macintosh has several different operating systems as well. The first version of the Apple is the Apple DOS, similar to MS-DOS from Microsoft it was released at the late 1978. The series of operating system that Apple released after the DOS was the System 1.0 to System 7.0. Then they decided to changed its name to Mac OS due to it is a more trademarkable name. Throughout the history Mac faces many finical problems and was nearly force to close down, one of the reasons is because of Microsoft; Mac is trying to compare their product with Windows. However, most people back then weren't familiar with Mac. OS 8.0 came out in a rush, it released mainly to help Apple move forward toward the Apple's difficult time. After it was released among the Mac users they started a "help save Mac" movement, the first two week after OS8.0 was released it has sold 1.2 million copies, and 3 million copies during the first 6 month. But there are still some company refused to use Mac. But overall, OS 8.0 aren't very different than system 7.0.
After the OS 8.0 was released, the follow up OS9.0 was released on October 23, 1999. It added 50 new features from the previous version. The new features include the multi-user log in, it allows users to create a few set of account on a computer, and the log in process can also be authorize by voice. The version of Mac that people are most familiar of is probably the Mac OS X, which is the updated from Mac OS 9.0. The first version of Mac OS X was released in March 2001, and since then it has updated to OS X7.0. Mac OS X is a UNIX base operating system, it is very secure and stabilize. In term of the user interface, it is design to favorite the user so that it is easier for user to find to tool that they need. The only problem with Mac OS is that it's is a very expensive operating system, and it only runs on Apple's hard ware.
