UNIX was created in the late 1960's by Bell Labs. When UNIX first came out it is very simple and small, it was build to run on mini-computers. UNIX is like a huge machine, you have to have an account to log in, it is not like Windows and Mac where you could just log into your computer, when you run UNIX you have to use the terminal to log into UNIX system. When you logged into Unix it might seem like you are the only one that is using the operating system, but it's not many user are online using Unix at the same time, Unix manage it memory very well so it seems like you are on the only one that is using it. It is like the operating system they use on the matrix. There is nothing much to explain about Unix, it cannot run some games that could be run on Windows, it could not edited videos like Mac. However, there are a lot of advantages by using UNIX.
1. UNIX is very good at multi-tasking. If you try to multi-task on a PC or a Mac, you computer will slightly lag when you are trying to open to program, but on UNIX it could multi-task with no delay.
2. Very small and light, could run on almost any machine. It is the most portable operating system out there.
Disadvantages:
1. User have to learn codes and command lines in able to understand Unix. Design for programmers not for casual users.
2. Everything is done by typing, no mouse is needed. So a little typo will have unexpected result.
